Are you feeling anxious or stressed and need help calming a busy mind? Are you in pain and or in need of some deep relaxation?
Massage therapy can provide a beautiful experience for anyone who is experiencing pain or discomfort or looking to unwind and power down. Many of us carry significant physical tension in our bodies for a number of reasons and in the modern world it is easy to find ourselves breathlessly moving through each day and week without making any time for ourselves to wind down.
The Healing Power of Touch:
Most of us don't see touch as essential to our wellbeing. However, neuroeconomist Dr Paul Zak, prescribes 8 hugs a day (based on research) to strengthen our relationships, grow resilience amidst stress and increase feelings of happiness - all facilitated through increased release of oxytocin. For any of us in a 'hug-deficit', massage therapy can provide 'informed and compassionate touch' that helps increase the secretion of this vital hormone.
There are many other benefits of massage therapy to mind and body:
Easing anxiety by shifting us out of 'fight/flight/freeze' and into 'rest and digest'
Encouraging freer, more relaxed breathing as we power down and release tension
Relieving headaches, muscular tension and pain
Helping us to fall asleep faster and to sleep deeper
Boosting the immune system's ability to fight colds and infections

I began my journey into massage at the JING Advanced School of Massage in Brighton. As a keen sportsman and (reluctant) desk jockey, I was all too aware our muscles can need a lot of looking after. However, my training at JING helped me to appreciate that massage can benefit not just our bodies but also encourage and enable us to slow down. In the modern world, many of us live at an unsustainable pace, moving breathlessly through each day, overly-stimulated and under-rested. Getting out of ‘fight or flight’ and into ‘rest and digest’ isn’t always easy though, especially without help. The beauty of massage is that the informed and caring and compassionate touch of another can ease the client into a ‘powered down’ state of global relaxation in which our nervous, hormonal and other systems can rebalance.
I completed a Diploma in Holistic and Deep Tissue Massage at the JING Advanced Massage Training School and am a member of the Complementary Health Professionals Association (CHPA).
